Purple Maiʻa Food+Policy, Intern — Honolulu, HI | Jan 2024 – May 2024

  • Tracked 128 food/agriculture-related bills during the legislative session and created a public community dataset on their status.
  • Advocated for SB 2414 (sustainable food systems) by creating social media posts, meeting with senators, and gathering petitions signed by 40 farmers, scientists, and EJ advocates.

Student Advocates for Environmentalism, Founder & President — Waiʻanae, HI | Dec 2023 – May 2024

  • Empowered 75 students in the G2FO (Going to Finish on Time) cohort to engage in local environmental issues and legislative advocacy.
  • Conducted an independent study on food insecurity, published in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, highlighting disproportionate reliance on food banks in Waiʻanae and advocating for sustainable agriculture solutions.

  • Mentored 10–15 Native Hawaiian students weekly, connecting peers to academic resources, teaching content, and scholarships.

  • Supported Dr. Paul Burow’s research on community-based climate resilience through qualitative data coding, survey implementation, and analysis to inform climate policy.

DaBUX (Double Up Food Bucks), Policy Researcher — Honolulu, HI | Feb 2024 – Mar 2024

  • Collected data on state funding for SNAP programs, discovering Hawaiʻi had one of the lowest incentives in the U.S.
  • Presented findings to legislators, contributing to the passage of the DaBUX bill, which secured $8.4 million in state funding.

  • Supported a PhD student in plant pathology by assisting Waiʻanae farmers with pesticide alternatives through sorghum biofumigation, soil collection, and project setup.

  • Tested six organic pesticides against Ceratocystis fimbriata, the pathogen responsible for Rapid ʻŌhiʻa Death.
